Shipping & Storage Containers for Sale

Our containers come in various lengths, heights, conditions, colors and door positions. Shipping containers are made of durable "Cor-Ten" steel—that can withstand the often harsh environment of sea travel. While in service as cargo containers, they were subject to frequent inspection to insure their safety and integrity. Once retired and repurposed for land use, these containers are again given a rigorous review before they are made available for sale or rent.

TYPES OR GRADES

All containers come with a one-year warrantee from wind or water damage. Each container is unique and graded by condition. The container grade affects price. The grade you choose should be based on its intended use.

One Trip

The One Trip container is almost a brand new container. It has on traveled one time across the ocean to a single port. This container meets the Institute of International Container Lessors standards for cargo containers. The One Trip will survey and can be used again for international cargo.

These containers are an excellent choice because they have not spent time deteriorating on the ocean or in container depots / terminals. One Trip containers have not been handled as many time so they do not have as many dents, dings and surface rust like the used "AS IS" containers. Most consider these containers and often refer to them as "new" or in "like new" condition. Keep in mind, these containers have made one trip across the ocean and have been handled by container lifts and trucks so they often have a few scratches and a possible ding or two. One Trip containers are available in several port locations. We strongly consider choosing a one trip container if you do not want to deal with maintenance and esthetics of used containers.

PREMIUM

This is your basic refurbished shipping container. They generally run in age anywhere from 5-15 years and have traveled several times across the sea. The premium container generally looks and works very well. Dents and dings on this grade of container are minimal, and the exterior of the container is complimented by a completely new paint job.

This grade of cargo container is great for the client who needs a cosmetically appealing shipping container but doesn't want to spend as much as a One Trip or IICL-5 may cost.

Premium containers will survey and can be used again for international cargo.

IICL - 5

The IICL is usually a younger cosmetically appealing container. The IICL will have some degree of surface rust as well as some dings and dents from lift handling and ocean air. However, the IICL generally has less surface rust or wear and tear than other used containers do.

Structurally, the IICL - 5 is the best "used" container for your money. If your project requires a high degree of structural integrity and you do not want to pay the price of a new container, this could be a great fit for you.

If your requirements are highly cosmetic, we would recommend going with the One Trip or Premium.

Cargo Worthy

Cargo Worthy containers are excellent for storage use and exporting internationally. Basic Cargo Worthy containers range from 5-20 years. This a great option for those who are concerned about appearance because rust, dings, and dents are minimal. Cargo Worthy generally cost less than the One Trip, Premium and IICL 5.

CWO containers will often survey and can be used for export. Again, surveying can be done for an extra charge.

Used "AS IS" and "WWT" (Wind and Water Tight)

"AS IS" Containers are the cheapest option when buying a shipping or storage container. "AS IS" units are used as shipping containers for years then retired by shipping or leasing companies. "AS IS" storage containers are available for sale in every major metropolitan and port location around the world. Shipping containers are often categorized as "A grade", "WWT" (wind and water tight) or "AS IS". You must understand that most used containers have surface rust where they are scratched and are often labeled by the shipping label in various colors. Used containers in this category are the most popular choice due to the inherent value associated with the abundant supply of these containers.

WWT containers are usually purchased for storage purposes and cannot be used to export cargo. They can range from 15-30 years and will often have noticeable and heavy surface rust, dings, and further signs of age and use.

If cosmetics are important to you, the WWT container is most likely not the right fit for you.

WWT containers normally will not survey and go back on water.

Coastal Containers guarantees this container grade to be wind and water tight.

Most small businesses, contractors and residential users with space concerns choose 20ft portable storage containers. 20ft containers take up less space and do not require as much room for delivery as the 40ft portable storage containers.

Besides the typical sizes that are designed for the shipping industry, companies often offer containers in other lengths. These containers are typically cut down to make other sizes in length. These often come in sizes as small as 10ft and range up to 45ft', 48ft or 53ft. The larger sized containers 40ft, 45ft, 48ft and 53ft are also often available as "high cubes". High cube containers are 9.5ft high with a much larger total storage capacity.

High cubes are commonly used to create residential or commercial office space. The extra height is used to run vents, electrical or plumbing.

Modified Containers

Modified containers are very popular and an excellent choice for storage as well as many new and exciting applications. Although painting containers is always a good idea, some modifications have negative aspects. Popular "roll up doors" for example are not as secure and do not last as long as the standard ISO Cargo door. Another fact to think about is that ISO standard shipping containers are manufactured to create a weather proof 100% seal. If you modify the container in certain ways, you may be compromising the inherent advantages associated with a water tight sealed container.

Listed below is a list of common modifications to think about. Coastal Containers partners with companies that may offer some or all of these modifications in your region.
